There is a need for an alternative policy framework but there is little to choose between Congress and BJP who follow similar economic policies, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury today said.
"What the country requires is an alternative policy framework. There is very little to choose between BJP and Congress in terms of policy. And unless you have an alternative set of policy we cannot provide relief to the people," Yechury told journalists at the Indian Women's Press Corps here said.
He said that people are expecting that post elections there will be a government that will provide relief on the economic front and also in terms of social harmony.

Yechury said that since 1977, barring the elections held after Indira Gandhi's death, all the governments had been formed as coalitions.
Indicating that the Left and regional parties stood a strong chance, Yechuri said even the opinion polls were showing large numbers for 'others' category, though he did not really believe in them.
