Shanti Tigga, the Territorial Army's first woman jawan, was today found hanging inside her cabin in a hospital in Jalpaiguri district where she was admitted a few days ago, police said.
Tigga, who was attached with the 969 Railway Engineer Regiment of the Territorial Army, was found hanging with her 'gamchha' (traditional cotton towel) inside the cabin of the Alipurduar Railway Hospital.
She was hospitalised last week after she had allegedly been abducted by unknown persons and left tied to a post for an entire night near Chalsa.

She was found blindfolded and tied to a post near railway tracks, and rescued next morning. She had said that she was not physically harmed by the 'kidnappers'.
Tigga had joined the Railways in 2005 on compassionate ground after her husband died. She then took tests to join the Railway Engineer Regiment of the Territorial Army and earned the distinction in 2011.
