Reaching out to the Sikh community, Congress today sought its support for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections saying that if BJP came to power, it would be the country's "misfortune".
"We have to unite to fight the communal forces which seek to pit one brother against another. If BJP comes to power, it will be our misfortune," Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal said today.
Addressing a gathering of Sikh community members at a function where noted lawyer KTS Tulsi was felicitated, Sibal said, "Congress has always rewarded the minority community."

The Delhi Citizens Sikh Council, meanwhile, pledged its support for Congress in the upcoming elections.
Speaking on the occasion, Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh attacked RSS, saying, "In Gujarat, Sikhs and Muslims were being hounded by Sangh Parivar to get their votes, which is dangerous for democracy."
Another Congress leader, Shakeel Ahmed, said that their party was "the only one which can take all communities along for the development of the country. Whenever the country faced threats to its unity and integrity, only Congress leaders sacrificed."
Ahmed further claimed that Congress would sweep all the seats in Punjab and Delhi.
Tulsi, who was recently nominated to Rajya Sabha, said the Congress's policies and programmes were aimed at making the country stronger. It was necessary for Congress to come back to power at the Centre, he added.
