Press Trust of India New Delhi
The country's first indigenously developed vaccine for treating Japanese Encephalitis (JE) will be formally launched here tomorrow by Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Hyderabad-based vaccine company Bharat Biotech has developed the vaccine in public private partnership initiative to prevent Japanese encephalitis, a mosquito-borne viral disease that affects the brain.

The Drug Controller has already approved the efficacy and safety of the vaccine after various processes of clinical trials by the company.

At present, India depends on Chinese imports for supply of the JE vaccine. The JE virus has killed over hundreds of people across the country and lakhs of vaccine doses have to be procured.
