Couple arrested for being involved in kidney racket

The couple were arrested midnight last night from a relative's house at Benachity market area in the steel town following complaints by a woman in Kolkata.

The woman, who had been deserted by her husband, had complained to the Kolkata police that the two had got her admitted to a nursing home and had taken away one of her kidneys after operating on her with her permission. However, they did not pay her the money that was agreed upon.

The two were forwarded to a local court during the day and remanded to police custody for five days.

The police claimed that the couple had been involved in selling at least 40 kidneys earlier.

 

Durgapur-Asansol police commissioner Ajay Nanda said investigations were on to ascertain wheteher the two were part of a larger kidney racket.
