Couple dead, son taken ill

A couple died and their son taken ill after consuming food spiced with poisoned coriander and garlic leaves in a village under Kopa police station area in Bihar's Saran district, a police officer said today.

The incident took place in Panchrukhiya village last night as a farmer Virendra Yadav (47) and his wife Indu Devi (44) died in sleep, while their son Shyam Sunder taken ill after consuming food spiced with poisoned coriander and garlic leaves, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Satyavir Singh said.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the ailing youth admitted to a hospital for treatment, he said.
 

Singh said that the farmer had sprayed insecticides on potato crop last evening and plucked coriander and garlic leaves from the same field without washing his hands.

His wife cooked chicken and spiced it with coriander and garlic leaves with traces of insecticides, the SP said, adding that the couple died in sleep due to heart problems arising out of consumption of poisoned food.
