Couple held for stealing Rs 10 lakh in cash and jewellery

A man and his wife were today arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 10 lakh in cash and 60 tola of gold jewellery from their landlord's house in South Delhi's Munirka area, police said today.

Rekha and her husband Manoj were arrested by Vasant Vihar police station.

"One Surat Singh had reported yesterday that more than 60 tola gold jewellery and Rs. 10 lakh cash had been stolen from his house, following which a case was registered and investigation taken up," said a police official.

The police came to know that one of their tenants, namely Rekha along with her husband Manoj Kumar, were missing after the incident. The police team focused investigation on locating the couple. Local intelligence was developed and the duo were arrested, he said.
 

During interrogation, the couple, police claimed, confessed to their involvement in the crime. They disclosed that they belong to Akola, Maharashtra, and were residing as tenant at the house of their landlord for the last three months.

At their instance, stolen gold jewellery weighing around 60 tola and cash Rs 10 lakh were recovered, police said.
