A couple have been sent to 10 years in jail by a Delhi court for trying to murder a relative and her two daughters by assaulting them with a knife on the issue of sharing a power connection.
The court awarded the jail term to Delhi residents Luxmi Narayan and his wife Suman for attempting to kill their sister-in-law Sunita and her daughter Pooja and assaulting her other daughter Laxmi.
"I am of the opinion that prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that the accused persons by sharing common intention had caused simple injuries to Laxmi and attempted to commit murder of Pooja and Sunita and thereby accused persons are held guilty for the offence punishable under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons)/ 307 (attempt to murder)/ 34 (common intention) IPC," Additional Sessions Judge Vijay Kumar Dahiya said.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 12,000 each on Suman and Narayan.
The court allowed Suman's plea to take her four-year-old son along with her in jail after it was apprised that as per the jail manual, a child of upto five years is allowed to accompany her mother in judicial custody.
According to prosecution, the incident took place on the morning of August 4, 2011 when Narayan wanted an electricity connection from the wire installed at the house of victim Sunita, wife of his brother, and she had asked him to get installed the wire at his own expense.
Narayan along with his wife again came to her house in the evening. Suman caught hold of Sunita while Narayan stabbed her on her chest and other body parts.
When her daughter Laxmi intervened, the accused stabbed her on her head and neck also, it said.
After hearing their cries, Pooja came forward to save her mother and sister but the couple did not spare her and assaulted her also with the knife.
The couple sought leniency, saying they have been falsely implicated in the case and have to look after their two minor children.
The prosecutor opposed their plea for leniency, saying they have inflicted injuries on their close women relatives.
