Bodies of a couple, suspected to have been killed, were found at a hut near Mizoram-Tripura border at Kawrthah village in Mamit district today, Mamit district SP Narayan Thapa said.
Thapa told PTI over phone that inquest report of the police indicated that they were murdered with sharp weapon, most likely machete last night.
The murdered man identified as Hmingchungnunga was a retired police constable who had earlier worked at the Kawrthah Police Station and the police did not rule out rape of his wife Roziki. he said.
Post-mortem would be conducted at the Kawrthah Primary Health Centre following which more details will emerge, he said.
