A newly-wed couple lost their lives in Bardhaman district after facing the wrath of family members for their inter-faith marriage.

Mousumi Sah (18) and Sujan Bagdi (28), who had known each other for quite some time, had married a fortnight ago at Aruer village, police said.

As the young man's family refused to accept them, the couple put up with the girl's aunt at Pichkuri village.

Last Friday, her brother-in-law Robu Sheikh, along with some other persons, went to Pichkuri village and beat them up, police said.

They then dumped Sujan in a Howrah-bound goods train, but he was spotted by GRP personnel, sources said. Mousumi was also forcibly taken to her father's home.

Sujan was admitted at a Howrah hospital where he died of his injuries yesterday, the sources said.

Today Mousumi's body was found hanging at her house and was subsequently buried by her brother-in-law, they said.

The brothers of both the young man and the girl have lodged a police complaint against Robu Sheikh, who was absconding.
