The daughter of a leading textile shop owner here has approached police seeking protection from her parents and the son of banned al-umma founder after she married a Muslim man and converted to Islam.

The woman and her lover-turned husband recently appeared before a senior police official and complained that Siddiq Ali, an ex-convict in the 1998 serial bomb blasts case and son of al-umma chief Batcha, had 'kidnapped' them and later handed her over to her parents in return for 'hefty sum', police said.

The woman, who managed to escape from her parents, told the police she had married Mohammed Mukhthar, a choreographer, and converted to Islam.

She also claimed Ali gave a threat to their lives and said she did not want to go and live with her parents.

Based on her complaint, Police today raided the house of Ali and seized over Rs 1.50 lakh and some 'documents'.

Ali was at large, police said.
