Couple sentenced to life imprisonment for sacrificing child

A local court at Saharanpur has sentenced a couple to life imprisonment for sacrificing a 12-year-old boy two years ago.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirudh Morya, while passing the order yesterday, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the accused Maya Devi and her husband Parshant Kumar after holding them guilty under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the prosecution, Deepak was sacrificed by the couple in an exorcism ritual to cure illness of their children at Nukud village in Saharanpur district two years ago.

In another case, a local court here sentenced two brothers to life imprisonment yesterday for murdering their uncle and aunt over a property dispute.
 

Additional District and Sessions Judge Harish Tripathi also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the accused Vikas and Shiv Rashtra after holding them guilty under section 302 of the IPC.

According to the prosecution, Moher Singh and his wife Kamla Devi were shot dead by their nephews Vikas and Shiv Rashtra at Pindora village in Shamli district on June 5, 2008.
