Ganja weighing15 kg was seized from a couple which allegedly tried to smuggle the narcotic from Tamil Nadu on Friday, police said
Nasar (31) and his second wife Athira (26) were arrested from Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district during a joint operation by the police and the district anti-narcotic special action force (DNAF).
Acting on a tip-off, the police took the two into custody for carrying the ganja on a motorcycle from Tirupur in Tamil Nadu to Perumbavoor.
On interrogation, the accused, hailing from Idukki district, confessed to have been smuggling narcotics for the last six months, the police.
Nasar and Athira were allegedly part of a gang distributing the ganja in various parts of Kerala, they said, adding that probe was on to catch the gang.
