A couple and their teenage son were killed today when their car hit a divider on the national highway near Pipli in Haryana's Kurukshetra district, police said.

"The couple, aged above 40, and their son, about 15 years old, were killed in the mishap. A girl who was also in the car was injured. It appears that the man who was at the wheel fell asleep and lost control over the vehicle," a police official said over the phone from Kurukshetra.

"However, investigations are on to ascertain the exact cause of the accident," he said.

He said the accident occurred near Pipli in Kurukshetra on the Ambala-Delhi national highway.

"The Maruti Alto car bore a Chandigarh registration number and appeared to be headed towards Delhi," he said.
