A couple and their two teenaged daughters allegedly committed suicide in a village near here over financial problems, including loss in a chit fund run by the woman, police said on Friday.
Police said they suspect the four ended their lives in their house Kuyilapalayam in neighbouring Tamil Nadu on Monday and the decomposed bodies were found on Friday after neighbours complained of foul smell.
After breaking open the door of the house locked from inside, police found the bodies of head of the family Sundaramoorthy, hanging from the ceiling, and his wife and their two daughters, aged 17 and 13, who were suspected to have consumed poison, lying on the floor.
According to police, Sundaramoorthy was working in a bakery and his wife Maheswari, employed in a private firm, had been running a chit fund in the village.
They were in poor financial condition and worried over their liability to the members who had deposited in the chit fund, police said adding further investigation was on.
