Coupon system to avail ration cards: Minister

A coupon system would be introduced from October 1 to avoid delay in distributing ration cards to the people, state Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader said today.

The system was being introduced to avoid inconvenience to the people who werefacing problems in acquiring ration cards, he told reporters here.

Each family would be provided with 3 kg of rice and 2 kg of wheat for the next three months.

From January, four kg of riceand one kg of wheat would be distributed through ration outletsas rice was more in demand, he said.

The complaints regarding irregularities in thedistribution of BPL and APL cards would be looked into andstrict action would be taken against those responsible, hesaid. The government had simplified the procedure for obtaining a ration card as only four criteria needed to fulfilled now to get a card, while it was 14 earlier, he said.
