Ram Singh, 28, a resident of Rajasthan's Sikar district, was arrested from Malviya Nagar yesterday, a senior police official said.

"Police recovered diamond, gems, gold and stone studded gold jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh from Singh," ACP (South district) P S Kushwah said.

During interrogation, Singh said he thought of becoming rich overnight after seeing the jewellery. So he hatched a conspiracy with co-accused Vijender to run away with the consignment, the official said.

Singh won the confidence of his employer with his promptness and dedication, Kuswah said.

On May 21, Singh was given the parcels of gold and diamond jewelleries worth Rs 50 lakh to deliver to various parties in Chandigarh.

Singh along with Vijender went to ISBT, Kashmiri Gate for boarding a bus for Chandigarh but he vanished after taking his portion of booty and boarded a Jaipur-bound bus. He also switched off his mobile.

Vijender also took his share but remained in Delhi. But he also went underground after some days.

During investigation, police received information that Singh had moved to Delhi from Bikaner to dispose off the stolen jewellery, the official said.
