Courier van driver killed, over 7 kg gold looted in UP

Driver of a courier van was killed and a security guard injured by unidentified armed miscreants who looted gold worth crores of rupees from the vehicle on the Lucknow-Kanpur National Highway here, police said today.

The van of Sequel Logistic Private Limited, Ahmedabad was on its way to Lucknow when SUV-borne miscreants intercepted it near FI Medical and Research Centre near Bajhera village under Sohramau police station area, they said.

They shot the driver Harichand Yadav (30) and security gurad, who offered resistance, and looted gold biscuits and jewellery weighing over seven kg before fleeing, they said.

Another person, who was in the van, somehow managed to save his life and rushed to inform the police, they said.
 

The driver and the guard were rushed to the Nawabganj community health centre where the former was declared dead and the latter was referred to Lucknow Trauma centre in a serious condition, they said.

An FIR has been filed on the complaint of the courier company for loot of over seven kg of gold in the form of biscuit and jewellery, one mobile phone and three ATM cards, they added.
