Sharma is currently in the Thane jail in connection with the alleged fake encounter case of Ramnarayan Gupta.
The CBI had sought the permission of the sessions court court here which is conducting the trial in the Gupta case.
According to CBI, Jamal was illegally detained by the Mumbai Police and later handed over to Gujarat Police, who allegedly killed him in a fake encounter.
Following the Gujarat High Court's order last year, the the central agency registered a case against the police officers of Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Last month, the CBI had questioned former encounter specialist Daya Nayak in the case.
Jamal was killed in the encounter with police in Naroda area of Ahmedbabad in 2003. Gujarat Police had claimed that he was on a mission to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
But Mumbai-based journalist Ketan Tirodkar later filed an affidavit in the Gujarat High Court, saying that Jamal was in fact in Mumbai Police's custody, and Nayak had handed him over to Gujarat Police.
