The sessions court today allowed the prosecution to file an application in the Bombay High Court seeking certified copy of a letter written by a victim girl's father in connection with a rape and murder case.

The case relates to rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in suburban Kurla in 2010.

"When we approached the High Court, we were told by the registry that the copy of the letter will not be shared unless the trial court passes any order. Now since the trial court has allowed us to file an application we will seek the letter from High Court afresh," said special public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat.

In the letter, written to the HC, the victim's father had said that he had filed a petition in the High Court which demanded transfer of the case to CBI without knowing the petition's content because he had been promised Rs five lakh or a flat in return by some persons.

The petition was withdrawn when HC got the letter.

A girl's body was found in a shanty in Nehru Nagar's Vatsalatai Nagar slum on June 19, 2010 after neighbours complained of foul smell. The girl had gone missing a fortnight ago.

After the medical report confirmed that the girl had been raped, Javed Shaikh, an employee of local cable operator, was arrested. He is now facing trial.
