Court awards 1 yr jail term to pharmacy owner

: A local court has sentenced a medical store owner here to one year simple imprisonment for allegedly running his shop without an authorised pharmacist.

Judicial Magistrate K Selvapandi yesterday sentenced M Vaijayanthimala, to one year simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on him.

According to the prosecution, officials of Department of Drug Control Administration inspected the medical store in 2015 and found various irregularities, including sale of medicines and other articles without proper bills and supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Later, a case was filed under various sections of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1945.
