While convict Mithun Das claimed before the judge that he was innocent and hoping for justice in a higher court, another convict Monojit Biswas alleged that he had been framed by the CID.
The brutal murder of Rajib Das had taken place on the night of February 14, 2011 at Kachhari Maidan in Barasat, the district headquarters of North 24-Parganas.
Rajib was accompanying his elder sister, who was returning from her workplace in Kolkata, to their Banamalipur residence from Barasat Railway Station around 11.30 PM while the drunken goons tried to molest her at Kacchari Maidan, an area dotted with bungalows and offices of top district administrative officials.
Post-mortem report had later revealed that Rajib was stabbed at least 17 times.
