A local court today awarded life imprisonment to a student for murdering a girl in the campus of an university here in 2012.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Basrudin sentenced Pradeep Nain, an engineering student of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST) here, to life imprisonment for murdering Geetika Mehta, also a student of GJUST on November 26, 2012 in the campus.
The court convicted him on March 20 but the quantum of sentence was pronounced here today.

Besides the life imprisonment, the accused was ordered to pay a fine of Rs one lakh.
According to the prosecution, Geetika Mehta (20), hailing from Ballabhgarh in Faridabad district of Haryana and a final-year B.Tech (Computer Science) student of GJUST, was brutaly murdered with sharp-edged weapon by Pradeep Nain when she was sitting outside a shop in the shopping centre of the university on November 26, 2012.
Other students present there caught Pradeep Nain on the spot and handed him over to police.
Pradeep and Geetika were close friends but she later distanced herself from him.
On a complaint of Manohar Lal Nangru, a Hisar-based relative of the deceased, a case of murder was registered against Pradeep Nain in city police station.
