Court awards RI to man for killing wife

A local court here today awarded rigorous imprisonment for life to a man for killing his wife 10 years ago in the district.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) (II) Subhash Chandra Prasad held one Phani Mandal guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and awarded rigorous imprisonment for life to him, besides imposing a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.

As per the FIR, Phani Mandal had killed his wife Anita Devi with a sharp-edged weapon in the intervening night of September 4-5, 2008 at Rautara village of Rautara police station of the district.

Mandal had hid his wife's body in his (Mandal's) house, it said, adding that the police found the body from the house on September 6, 2008 and lodged an FIR against him the same day.
