Court awards Rs 16.85 lakh compensation in accident case

A court here today awarded a compensation of Rs 16.85 lakh and Rs 18.23 lakh respectively to the families of two persons who died in separate road accidents.

Senthilkumar of Thirucherai, a tanker lorry driver, died on the spot after the lorry driven by him rammed into a lorry in front which came to an abrupt halt following a tyre burst on a national highway on May 26, 2009.

His parents filed a Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal Original Petition (MACTOP) before the Thanjavur Chief Judicial Magistrate Court claiming a compensation from ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company and United India Insurance Company.

In another MACTOP case, the CJM awarded Rs 18.23 lakh to the family of a 36-year old man, who died after falling down from a state-owned transport corporation bus near Thirubuvanam in August, 2012.

Muzurrahman of nearby Avaniapuram was working a cashier in a grocery shop and was travelling from Aduthurai to Kumbakonam when he fell down as the bus was negotiating a turn. He succumbed to serious injuries while being rushed to a hospital.

His 30-year old wife Sarbunnisha and her minor children, along with his mother Fathimabeevi, filed the MACTOP before the court claiming a compensation of Rs 25 lakh from the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Kumbakonam.

The Judge awarded awarded Rs 18,23,840 to the family.
