The Delhi Police was once again directed by a court here to furnish "proper action taken report" on a complaint against issuance of voter cards to anti-social elements without making proper inquiries and allowing them to contest elections.
The complainant had said he had sent a complaint to the police but no action was taken on it, after which he moved court.
The complainant had sought names of anti-social elements or of those involved in criminal cases be removed from voter list and that they be declared invalid to contest any elections.
The complaint said election voter cards are issued, without making proper inquiries, to elements who are involved in criminal activities and facing trial.
It said that after getting election cards, such persons contest elections to the post of councillors, MLAs and MPs and in case they win the elections, they give rise to corruption.
Metropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain called for a proper ATR after the police submitted that since it had not received any complaint, no action was taken by it while the complainant stressed that he had sent a written complaint to the Commissioner of Police.
"As per report, it is stated that no such complaint is received in police station Parliament Street. As such, no police action was taken. It is though pertinent to note that the complainant has sent a written complaint to Commissioner of Police qua which an acknowledgement receipt is also shown by the complainant.
"IO is directed again to furnish proper action taken report before this court on July 25," the court said.
The response from the police came on a court's earlier order calling for an ATR on the complaint filed by Haryana resident Satyavir Singh against Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampat and Election Commissioners H S Brahma and Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi.
