A guitar teacher was today held guilty by a Delhi court for raping, cheating his colleague and indulging in bigamy.

Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhatt convicted Garvit Indora observing that even though the woman had turned hostile during the trial it does not prove his "innocence".

Bigamy is an act of entering into a marriage with one person while still being legally married to another.

The court noted that the convict had concealed the fact that he was married and engaged into physical relation with the complainant who was a dance teacher at an institute where he used to take guitar classes.

While convicting Indora, the judge also observed that the victim had turned hostile during her deposition in the court but at the point of cross-examination by the prosecution, she admitted to having physical relationship with him.

The youth was arrested in February this year after the woman alleged he had developed sexual relations with her on a false promise of marriage.

The police also alleged the woman, who was in love with the youth, had claimed in her complaint that the accused took her to Rajasthan and solemnised the marriage.

She has further told the police that on returning to Delhi she came to know through the accused' friends that he already has a wife.

Feeling cheated, she lodged a complaint with the police.

Based on the woman's complaint, police have registered an FIR under various sections, including 376(rape) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused at Dwarka South police station here.

During the trial, the woman pleaded with the court to release the accused from custody as she had entered into sexual relation with him on her own wish.

The court, however, turned down the woman's plea, saying "merely turning hostile does not compel the court to pardon the accused".

The court has fixed October 13 to hear arguments on the quantum sentence to be awarded to the convict.
