A dreaded terrorist of Babbar Khalsa outfit was today convicted by a local court on charges of indiscriminate firing at the railway station here on August 25, 2009 in which a tea vendor was killed.

Two Government Railway Police constables Karanpal Singh and Naranjan Singh were also seriously injured in the shoot out.

Holding Balbir Singh Bhootna guilty, Additional Sessions Judge Sarabjit Singh Dhaliwal ordered him to undergo rigorous life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him.

The court, however, acquitted his female aide Sukhjinder Kaur for want of convincing evidence against her in this case.

Bhootna and Kaur were arrested by the police after an encounter that lasted for more than three hours at the local railway station on that morning.
