A sessions court today dismissed the anticipatory bail application filed by a local CPI(M) leader, who has been named as an accused in a criminal case.

Considering the anticipatory bail application plea of CPI(M) leader Zakir Hussain, who has been booked after a man was allegedly threatened over a business deal, the court said mere delay in registering the case itself was not a ground to grant anticipatory bail.

"This is not a fit case for granting anticipatory bail," the court said while dismissing the plea by Hussain, against whom a case under non-bailable offence has been registered on a complaint sent to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan by victim Jube Poulose in Ernakulam.

In his complaint, Poulose had alleged he was recently forcibly taken to a place by a gang, where Hussain threatened him with dire consequences over the business deal.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) yesterday removed Hussain from the post of party's Kalamassery area Secretary.

The decision was taken ata meeting of the party's Ernakulam District Secretariat, attended by CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

Hussain, who is absconding, however, has been retained as member of the party's district committee.
