A Delhi court today granted anticipatory bail to a Delhi Police official, who had allegedly raped a woman and videographed the incident on promise of marriage.
Additional Sessions Judge Rajeev Bansal allowed the plea of Sub Inspector Varun Jha, against whom the court last week had ordered registration of FIR under the appropriate provisions of IPC.
The court, while allowing the bail plea of Jha, directed him to furnish a personal bond of Rs 50,000 with one surety of the like amount.
It also restrained Jha from leaving the national capital and asked him to cooperate in the investigation "as when asked by the police".
Jha filed his bail plea through senior advocate Ramesh Gupta, who claimed before the court that the accused is a innocent man and has been falsely implicated in this case.
The counsel also said that he has an apprehension that police might arrest Jha.
On February 3, Metropolitan Magistrate Tarun Yogesh had directed Station House Officer (SHO) of Saket Police Station to register an FIR against accused Varun Jha.
The court order had come on a complaint filed by a Delhi- based woman, who had alleged that Jha allured her on promise to marry her and indulged in physical relationship despite her objection and later in December 2013 refused to marry her.
She has also alleged that Jha has recorded the sexual intercourse between them in the mobile phone of his friend and was threatening to show the recording to her family members if she forces him for marriage.
"Considering allegation of rape and criminal extortion by retaining the video recording of sexual intercourse, against accused, I am of the considered opinion that present matter requires scientific and specialised investigation...," the magistrate had said.
