The Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court today granted interim stay on the disqualification of three Nagaland MLAs by the Speaker.

The court passed the stay order after hearing a petition filed by the three disqualified MLAs - Imtilemba Sangtam, Dr TM Lotha and Mmhonlumo Kikon- last Tuesday against the Speaker's disqualification order.

The court has asked the lawyers representing the respondents, Nagaland Assembly Speaker and Secretary, to file a counter-affidavit within two weeks.

The final hearing has been fixed for October 28.

Speaker Chotisuh Sazo had disqualified the former NCP MLAs for switching sides to the BJP on June 16 last claiming to have fulfilled all the laid down provisions under the Tenth Schedule of the Anti-Defection Law of the Constitution.
