A local court today allowed the police to take arrested businessman Bholanath Bhagat, stated to be an associate of arrested mafia Dhalasamant brothers on a five-day police remand from tomorrow.

Bhagat, a native of the city who was apprehended by the city police from a location in Uttar Pradesh last week in connection with his links with the Dhalasamant brothers, was produced before the SDJM's court here today.

The Dhalasamant brothers--Sushant and Sushil--were arrested in the case relating to the murder of two of their associates.

Claiming that Bhagat was also involved in the murder of Dipu Mallick and Om Prakash Swain, two former associates of Dhalasamant brothers, police had sought a seven-day remand of him. But the court allowed five-day remand and sent Bhagat to Choudwar jail on judicial remand for the day.

Bhagat's house here was raided by the police soon after the arrest of Dhalasamant brothers on January 29 and collected some documents. Bhagat was, however, absconding at that time.

It was also ascertained that Bhagat had rented his house at Pokhariput in Bhubaneswar to Dhalasamants, from where the brothers were arrested.

"We are confident of extracting more evidence about the twin murders of November 2013 from the accused during his custodial interrogation," said city DCP Sanjiv Arora.
