The Calcutta High Court today ordered the Hooghly police to provide proper assistance to a BJP candidate from Uttarpara so that he was able to campaign for the civic polls on April 25.
Justice I P Mukherji passed the order on the basis of a petition filed by the candidate, Ganesh Banerjee, from ward number 17 in Uttarpara.
Banerjee's counsel Suprodip Roy told the court he was being obstructed from doing his campaign by ruling party workers.

The court directed the police to ensure that the candidate was able to campaign for the election and also allowed the petitioner to report to the court in case of any violation of the order.
The police were also told by the court that if the petitioner reports any non-compliance of the order, then all the records would be called for.
