Court orders seizure of properties of govt officer

A special court here today ordered confiscation of properties worth Rs 31.94 lakh belonging to an accountant with the women and child development department of the Madhya Pradesh government.

The court directed that the properties be used in the public interest, as provided under the Madhya Pradesh Special Courts Act.

Lokayukta Police had raided the premises belonging to the Chote Khan, the official, in Indore and Alirajpur on July 24, 2011 and recovered assets highly disproportionate to his known sources of income. He was posted in Sondwa in Alirajpur district then.

He was charge-sheeted on March 15, 2014.

The order of confiscation was passed by the special anti-corruption cases judge Avnindra Kumar Singh, said public prosecutor R N Bhargava.
 

The properties to be seized include three plots of land worth Rs 26.28 lakh at Vikram Nagar in Dewas, a plot and a house in Manawar in Dhar, a house in Indore's Green Park Colony, jewellery worth Rs 1.69 lakh and Rs 3.96 lakh in cash.
