A Kerala court today quashed a case registered against Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi for climbing atop a vehicle in "violation" of traffic rules during a youth Congress march in the state in January last after police defended his action citing security grounds.
The case registered under the Motor Vehicle Act on a complaint by NCP leader Mujeeb Rahman was quashed by the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court at nearby Mavelikkara.
The complainant had held that Gandhi violated traffic rules by climbing atop a police vehicle during the Youth Congress march at Nooranad in the District on January 13.
The state police submitted to the court that it was on a suggestion from the security guards that the Congress leader perched himself on top of the vehicle as there had been a surge of crowd when he joined the march, led by Youth Congress President Dean Kuriakose.
