Suspended IAS officer Ashok Singhvi was today denied bail by a local court in Udaipur in a case related to bribery involving Rs 2.55 crore.

Singhvi is among eight persons who were arrested recently by Anti-Corruption Bureau in the case and are presently under judicial custody in Udaipur.

Singhvi's counsel had moved the bail application on September 24 in the court which heard the application today and rejected it.

Singhvi and other officials had allegedly demanded the bribe from a mines owner to issue him permission to restart his six mines which were closed by the mines department.

The mines owner sent Rs 2.55 crore to his chartered accountant Shyam Singh Singhvi in Udaipur for handing over the money to a mines department's middleman Sanjay Sethi.

Sethi was supposed to deliver the amount to senior officers but the ACB team caught Sethi and Shyam Singh with the amount at the latter's office in Udaipur.

Later, other officers including Principal Secretary, Ashok Singhvi were arrested by the ACB from Udaipur, Bhilwara and Jaipur. Singhvi was arrested from jaipur.
