A court here has rejected the plea of a ruling Samajwadi Party government to withdraw case of harassment of a Dalit man against a sitting party MLA and six others, prosecution said.

In 2009, one Lalta had lodged a complaint against SP MLA from Gyanpur Mishra, block head Manish Mishra, Krishna Mohan Tiwari and four others for allegedly grabbing land, assault and making casteist remarks at Gopiganj police station, prosecution lawyer said here today.

A charge sheet has been filed in the case, he said.

The government had sent a letter approved by the Governor to withdraw the case after which the government counsel had moved the application, the lawyer said.

During hearing Additional District Judge Sanjay Shanker Pandey said that there was no concrete reason behind withdrawing the case and rejected the application yesterday.

The court fixed April 23 as the next date of hearing.
