Five persons were today remanded to 14 days' judicial custody by a special court in connection with the attack on the Officer-in-charge of Parui police station in Birbhum district.

Vacation judge of Special Court Rishi Kusari remanded the five to 14 days' judicial remand after charging them under the Arms Act and different sections of IPC - unlawful assembly (section 143), section 147 (rioting) section 353 (assault or criminal force) to prevent a government servant from discharging his duty.

The five - Hafiz Mollah, Noor E Alam, Noor Hussein, Sk Shamim, Mozammel Haq - were accused of leading a mob which attacked Parui OC Prosenjit Dutta when he led a force to raid Chakmondola village after being informed that bombs were being manufactured there yesterday.

The OC, while being rushed to Suri Hospital told reporters that the police team went to the village on being tipped off.

While the OC is in ICU, three other cops, also injured in the attack, were discharged.
