A special court hearing the Naroda Gam riot case has reserved its order on an application filed by former Gujarat minister Maya Kodnani seeking to recall a witness for cross examination.

Judge P B Desai of the special court for SIT cases here reserved the order yesterday. The court is likely to pronounce the order on November 15.

Kodnani has already been convicted in the Naroda Patiya riot case and is out on bail.

Her lawyer Amit Patel argued while seeking to recall K K Mysorewala, a police officer posted at Naroda police station at the time of the riot at Naroda Gam, that previous defence lawyer who cross-examined the witness did not ask him certain crucial questions, so he needed to be examined again.

Lawyer of the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team which probed the case, however, opposed Kodnani's application, terming it a tactic to prolong the trial.

Kodnani is among the 84 accused in Naroda Gam case which is currently being heard by the special SIT court. As many as 187 witnesses have been examined so far.

Eleven members of the minority community were killed by a mob in Naroda Gam area here on February 28, 2002, a day after the Godhra train burning incident in which 59 people died.
