Court sends 2 JU students to judicial custody till Sept 29

Two students of Jadavpur University arrested in connection with a molestation case on the campus were today remanded to judicial custody by a city court till September 29.

Nikhil Das, a third-year student, and Sonu Kumar, a second year student, arrested yesterday by Kolkata Police in connection with the molestation case on the varsity campus on August 28 were produced before the court which remanded them to judicial custody till September 29.

The varsity's students' body had demanded a fresh probe panel to investigate the matter of the alleged sexual harassment of a girl student on the campus and had gheraoed Vice-Chancellor Abhijeet Chakraborty to press their demand.
 

The students have been demanding the resignation of the VC holding him accountable for calling the police to the campus on September 16 night to lift the gherao and were also boycotting classes.
