Court sentences govt official for 3 years in graft case

A court in Amritsar has convicted a government official in a case of bribery and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state vigilance bureau said Amritsar's Additional Sessions Judge Navjot Sohal found Kabul Singh, Regional Seeds Certification Officer, guilty of bribery.

Singh was sentenced to three years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 was also imposed on him.

Singh was caught red handed while taking bribe amounting to Rs 10,000 by vigilance officials, the spokesperson said.

He said an FIR was registered on Januray 28, 2011 under Prevention of Corruption Act against him by the bureau.
