A local court today sentenced a man to eight years' rigorous imprisonment in connection with a three-year old dowry-related death in Palamau district.

Additional District and Session Judge Md Nasaruddin sentenced one Taslim Ansari to eight year rigorous imprisonment under section 304 IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) in connection with the killing of his wife Nasima Biwi for dowry in February 2013 in Islamnagar under Hydernagar police station.

The victim's father, Md Kalamuddin, a resident of Ramgarh district, had registered an FIR against Nasima's father-in-law Naimuddin Ansari, mother-in-law Sahjadi Khatoon, sister-in-law Saira Khatoon and son-in-law Taslim Ansari.

Kalamuddin had filed a complaint stating that Nasima's in-laws used to torture her demanding Rs. 50,000 and a TV set as dowry.

While Taslim Ansari was convicted for torture finally causing her death, the three others accused of murder were acquitted for lack of evidence.
