A court here today sentenced a woman to rigorous life imprisonment for killing her eight-month-old daughter five years ago.
District and Sessions Judge, Sambalpur, Saroj Kumar Paty, while convicting Hirmina Minz (25), also imposed a Rs-10,000 fine on her for throttling the infant to death on November 6, 2012 at Turipada in the Dhanupali area, near here.
According to the prosecution, the woman had confessed to her husband that she had throttled the girl to death and thrown the body into a bush on the river bank on the outskirts of the village when he was away for work.
The woman was arrested after her husband lodged a police complaint and subsequently, confessed to the crime, said Senior Public Prosecutor Artatrana Mishra.
