A special CBI court today stayed the arrest of MLA Bandhu Tirkey for a week, a day after it rejected his bail petition in connection with a disproportionate assets case pertaining to Rs 6.5 lakh.
The court of R K Choudhary stayed the warrant of arrest till September 5 after the Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch MLA's counsel petitioned the court for the stay as his client has moved the High Court to dismiss the entire case against him.
The CBI court had issued the warrant after Tirkey did not appear before it following the court's summon on August 1 over the closure report of the case filed in May by the CBI following lack of evidence against him.
Tirkey, who was the HRD minister between 2006 and 2008 during the Madhu Koda-led UPA regime, is now supporting the Hemant Soren-led UPA government.
