A Delhi court has confirmed a four year jail term awarded to a man held guilty of committing robbery using a blade in a moving bus here, observing that his act caused "fearamongstpublicatlarge".
Additional Sessions Judge Vrinda Kumari sent the convict, a Delhi resident, to four years in jail for robbing a man of his purse while threatening him with a blade in a moving bus, saying he did not deserve any leniency.
"Itcannotbelostsightofthattheoffencetookplaceon apublictransportcausingfearamongstpublicatlarge.Such circumstances do not warrant any leniency as prayed by the appellant," the judge said, while also considering that the convict was previously involved in six criminal cases of theft, snatching and robbery.
The court's order came while dismissing convict Mukesh Kumar's appeal against a magisterial court's January order by which he was sent to jail and was slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 for the offence of robbery under section 392 of IPC.
According to prosecution, on April 7, 2015, the convict robbed victim Arvind Singh of his purse in a moving bus here while threatening him with a blade. The purse had a driving licence and Rs 100 cash in it.
In his appeal against the order, the convict had denied all allegations and contended that no hurt was caused and the blade was not recovered from his possession, which was rejected by the court.
