Cows seized in Dhubri

A BSF jawan of its 17th

battalion seized 139 cows worth over Rs 12 lakh as they were being smuggled out from Dhubri district in Assam to across Bangladesh today, a BSF official said.

On a tip off the jawan seized the cows as they were being smuggled out from three villages to the neighbouring country through a riverine road on the Indo-Bangladesh border, BSF commandant B B Sidhra said.

The cows were taken from Chowkirchar, Gaspara and Old Dewaneralga villages under Dhubri police station, Sidhara said.

The smugglers, however, fled away leaving behind the cows, he said, adding the cattleheads were handed over to the Customs department.
