CP rape case: Chandigarh-based businessman arrested

A 58-year-old businessman, who allegedly raped a woman at a hotel in posh Connaught Place area here, has been arrested, police said today.

Chandigarh-based Vijay Anand who deals in pharmaceutical products, had sexually assaulted the woman yesterday after meeting her over lunch on the pretext of discussing business, according to the victim's complaint.

He was arrested from Chandigarh by a police team and presented before a court here today, a senior police official said.

The 33-year-old Delhi-based woman, called up police and reported that she was raped by the man known to her at the hotel in the Inner Circle of Connaught Place, a busy market zone in central Delhi.
 

In her complaint, the woman told police that the man had invited her to the hotel for discussing some business matter. He allegedly spiked her drink and later forced himself upon her, the official said, adding, she raised an alarm after gaining consciousness.

The police has registered a case under Section 376 of IPC on the basis of the woman's complaint.

From preliminary investigation, it emerged that the woman had met the accused on a visit to Chandigarh few months ago and he allegedly promised to get her employed at a multi-national company through his contacts in the national capital, the official said.
