Apparently seeking to rope in JD(U) in the proposed Third Front, CPI today backed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's special status demand and said the incentive was required to tide over the economic backwardness of Bihar.
"The special status demand being made by the Chief Minister for Bihar is fully justified in view of economic backwardness of the state," former CPI National General Secretary A B Bardhan said at the 'Jan Aakrosh Rally' at the Gandhi Maidan here.
Bardhan's advocacy of special status demand comes days before the left parties are scheduled to hold anti-communalism rally in Delhi on October 30 next to be attended by leaders of JD(U), SP, AIADMK, JD(U) and NCP.
The CPI leader, at the same time, had a dig at the Chief Minister for non-implementation of the D Bandopadhyaya Commission report on land reforms and urged him to do so if he cared for the poor.
