"Since 2001, there has been decentralisation of corruption and mismanagament of funds to the grass-root level. We ask all democratic parties and the people to ensure the defeat of the Congress in the panchayat polls," CPI state secretary Bhugeswar Dutta told reporters here.

He said CPI was ready to have understanding at the panchayat level with other Left and democratic parties to present a united front against the Congress.

"We are committed to ensure that the panchayati raj institution is used for the intended beneficiaries and for development of the rural economy of the state," Dutta said.

The party also criticised the state government for failing to control crime against women.
