CPI today condemned the killing of two Dalit children in Faridabad and said that the Centre has failed in its role in protecting the interests and rights of Dalits.

"Haryana is one state which has witnessed steep increase in cases of atrocities done against Dalits. Ever since BJP came to power, the situation has become worse," said D Raja, MP and National Secretary of CPI.

He also slammed Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for his comment that Muslims can live in the country but will have to give up eating beef, and called it "unconstitutional".

Referring to incidents reported at Maharashtra, where a Dalit youth was allegedly beaten to death because he had set an Ambedkar song as mobile ringtone, and Madhya Pradesh, where a Dalit girl was allegedly thrashed after her shadow fell on a man who belonged to a higher caste, Raja said that intolerance is at its peak under the rule of BJP.

"Ever since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, RSS has come to the political centrestage and a situation has been created in which Dalits and religious minorities are all under attack," Raja said.

He further said that all who stand for unity, integrity of the country and constitutional morality, should stand up against and condemn such incidents.

"The Centre has failed in its role in protecting the interests and rights of Dalits," Raja added.

The two children were burnt alive and their parents suffered injuries after some persons from upper caste allegedly set their house afire while they were sleeping yesterday at their residence in Sunped village of Faridabad.
